These little squashes are surprisingly productive for their size, and the dense, sweet flesh lived up to every bit of that 'full flavour' promise. I roasted them with sage and brown butter, and the skin was tender enough to eat right along with it.

I'm a sucker for heirloom history, so knowing this dates back to 1894 made it feel special right out of the packet. The seeds sprouted quickly and the mini squash have that dense, full flavor you don't get from grocery store pumpkins.

The flesh was incredibly dense and flavorful in the soups I made, and the harvest was surprisingly generous for such compact vines.
