蠶豆 '阿誇杜爾切'

Pulled the first pods three weeks earlier than my usual variety, and the flavour is noticeably sweeter. The long pods are packed with beans, just as the old seed catalogues described. Absolutely perfect for overwintering in my chilly zone.

Finally got around to sowing these in early spring and they germinated faster than I expected, despite the cold soil. The pods are already looking long and elegant, just like the description promised.

Planted these in October and they sailed through two frosts without any trouble, the pods are already forming by late spring. The old-fashioned Aquadulce variety really does live up to its reputation for hardiness, and the beans themselves are tender and sweet.
