Category: Plants

An outstanding, edible, silver foliage plant for difficult garden sites such as clay soils, sandy soils, salty soils and dry conditions. Drought tolerant once established, the foliage and seeds have long been used by First Nations people, both as a herb and also cooked, sauteed and as a stuffing - in fact, Atriplex means spinach. The foliage has a lovely, naturally salty flavour and is also high in plant proteins and minerals. Also popular for use as feed for lambs. Suitable for use as an edible hedge.

Amelia L. ★★★★★

My clay soil patch is finally looking good thanks to this saltbush; it’s already putting out new silver growth after just a couple weeks. I love that I don’t have to baby it with water, and the leaves are a nice bonus for cooking.

Ella B. ★★★★★

I planted this in a sandy, salty spot where nothing else would grow, and it's thriving. The silver foliage looks beautiful against my other plants, and I love that I can use it in cooking.

Timothy ★★★★★

My clay soil patch has killed everything I've thrown at it, but this silver beauty is thriving three months in with zero extra watering. The foliage has that soft, dusty texture that looks great even when everything else is crispy.
