Parsnip 'Hollow Crown'

Parsnip 'Hollow Crown' - Main image

Category: Seeds

Having the title of the oldest parsnip in cultivation, 'Hollow Crown' is named for the depression at the top of the crown where the foliage emerges. Soak seed to improve germination. Parsnip is a long-growing crop needing around 100 days to harvest, but well worth the time and space as the flavour when harvested fresh from the garden elevates when roasted or mashed.

Madison D. ★★★★★

Soaked the seeds overnight as suggested and saw sprouts in about 10 days. The hollow crown at the top is exactly as described—definitely a conversation starter in the garden.

Sophia W. ★★★★★

The hollow crown at the top makes them easy to identify once they sprout. Soaked the seeds overnight before planting and had great germination this season.

Isabella ★★★★★

Planted these in early spring after soaking them as the description suggests, and nearly every seed came up. The little dip at the crown is genuinely visible as the seedlings mature, which is a cool nod to the variety's history.
