Category: Plants

A unique form of this exotic and intriguing fruit that grows on a climbing epiphytic cactus and is best suited to hot climates. Deriving its common name from the appearance of its fruit, which is shaped like a fiery dragon's breath, exquisite curls of skin cover bright magenta-coloured flesh in early summer. This fruit looks like confectionery from the lolly shop and the taste is no disappointment. Fruit appears after pollination of the nocturnal flowers in early summer. Try growing against a north-facing wall for radiant heat, especially in cooler climates. Allow fruit to ripen on the plant prior to harvest.

Madison ★★★★★

It’s a striking plant even before it fruits, and the climbing habit makes it a real conversation piece on my trellis. Already seeing new growth on the cutting, and the magenta fruit shape alone was worth the buy for a hot-climate garden.

James D. ★★★★★

Planted this cutting in a large pot by our south-facing wall, and it's already throwing out new growth after just two weeks. The stem segments are firm and a healthy deep magenta — exactly what I was hoping for.

Jacob ★★★★★

The cutting arrived with healthy roots already forming, and it’s already putting out new growth on my sunny balcony. I love that it’s a true climbing epiphytic cactus—it’s been easy to train up a trellis, and the deep magenta fruit it’s starting to set is exactly as exotic as promised.
