Brilliant scarlet orange flowers. First described in 1750. Tasty pods can be used sliced or enjoyed steamed and the wine pink seed can be used as a dried winter bean. Runner beans also make an excellent cover crop if left to trail across the ground under fruit trees.

Ellie R. ★★★★★

I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the pods are when lightly steamed—they have a nice, tender texture. The vibrant orange-red blooms also added a beautiful pop of color to my garden trellis.

Ella ★★★★★

The scarlet flowers are absolutely stunning in my garden, much more vibrant than I expected. I love that the pods are tasty both sliced and steamed, and the dried winter beans are a bonus.

Zoe E. ★★★★★

I’ve been using the pods in stir-fries and they’re really tasty steamed, plus the dried winter beans are a nice bonus. The vines grew quickly and covered my trellis by mid-summer.
