Category: Seeds

A vigorous climbing bean that's perfect for training up a fence, trellis or teepee to create an edible screen that is easy to harvest. Named for its spiralling climbing habit and distinctive coloured beans which have snake-like mottling on the skin, this is one of the most hardy and versatile beans for gardeners in all areas growing equally well in drier soils, as it does in humid areas. Aside from the coloured pods, the beans themselves are unusual too as they are pure white while young, developing a beige appearance with burgundy marks as they mature. An excellent dried bean for all areas.

Joseph ★★★★★

The spiraling growth habit is no joke—mine wrapped around the trellis in tight coils within a week, and the pods are a breeze to spot among the leaves. Harvesting from the teepee was actually fun, and the screen it created shaded the lettuce nicely.

Natalie ★★★★★

These beans really do climb like crazy — my trellis was covered in less than three weeks. The spiral growth habit is fascinating to watch, and the pods are easy to spot for harvesting.

The purple-streaked pods are gorgeous against the teepee frame, and the spiraling growth habit really does make training it up to the crossbars a breeze. I’ve got a full edible screen by mid-July, and harvesting is so easy since everything hangs at eye level.
